She is beyond excited to see what this academic year holds and feels blessed to be able to do what she loves.
Mrs. Melanie Hartshorn
Melanie Hartshorn’s love of teaching goes back decades, much like her love for Jesus. She decided to be a Christ-follower at age 10, while living in the East Anglia district of England. Her love of teaching and missions began to manifest during her high school years in Quito, Ecuador, when she accompanied her mother on weekly forays to countryside villages to teach Sunday school classes. Seeing the light in the children’s eyes when they heard of God’s love for them lit the teaching fire in Ms. Hartshorn. That teaching fire has resulted in a career that has allowed her to teach every grade, pre-k through adult, virtually every subject, and in many different settings. The one constant has been the thrill when “the light comes on” and confusion and frustration are replaced with understanding and mastery. Ms. Hartshorn has a BA in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University and an MA in Education from National University. She is currently teaching Spanish to K-3rd grade students, and Spanish II and Life Skills in the high school.

During her time at Master’s, she had the opportunity to study abroad in Israel for a semester, hiking around the entire country, where Jesus walked. Kaylee has a passion for teaching history in a way that brings it to life for her students. She is excited to teach at KCA because she believes that one should not teach history without the redemptive story of the Bible woven into it.

She took a long break to raise 3 children but was excited for the opportunity to return to the classroom in the spring of 2021 at KCA as an upper school math teacher. Being on the same campus and schedule with her own children feels like such a gift in this season! While Mrs. Negard is teaching math, she is most passionate about helping teens grow in character as they follow Jesus and use the unique set of gifts and intelligence that God has given them to learn and do hard things, and encouraging the next generation to stand firm in a world where values are constantly in threat of being compromised.
